About Sonny Tunstall

East Texas Real Estate Broker

Sonny Tunstall is the broker behind Sonny Tunstall Real Estate, serving buyers and sellers of farms, ranches, residential homes, and commercial property across Houston, Anderson, Trinity, Leon, Angelina, and Cherokee Counties. With 18 years in real estate and a lifetime in East Texas before that, Sonny brings a level of local knowledge and personal accountability that’s hard to find in a rotating brokerage.

From Banking to Business Ownership

Sonny Tunstall is a sixth-generation East Texan, born and raised in Crockett and Houston County. His career didn’t start in real estate. Sonny got his start in banking in 1972, learning the financial side of business long before he ever helped a client buy or sell property.

In 1976, Sonny opened his first retail store in Beaumont, Texas. Over the next thirty years, he owned and operated retail stores in Beaumont, Nederland, and Port Arthur, building a reputation as a hands-on business owner. During those same years, he also invested in commercial and multi-family real estate, gaining direct experience as a property owner and investor long before he became a licensed broker.

Becoming a Licensed Real Estate Broker

In 2007, Sonny made the decision to pursue real estate full-time, earning his real estate and broker’s licenses in Boerne, Texas. He spent the next three years representing buyers and sellers in San Antonio, Boerne, Bandera, and the surrounding Hill Country counties. During that time, Sonny earned two respected industry designations: Graduate, Realtors’ Institute (GRI) and Accredited Buyer’s Representative (ABR).

Those credentials reflect ongoing, advanced training beyond the standard real estate license, and they shape how Sonny approaches every transaction today, from pricing a property accurately to negotiating on a client’s behalf. The GRI designation reflects extensive coursework in real estate law, finance, and technology, while the ABR designation specifically trains brokers to represent buyer interests through every stage of a purchase. Together, those credentials mean clients get a broker trained to handle both sides of a transaction, not just one.

Returning Home to East Texas

In 2010, Sonny returned to his East Texas roots. He settled on a farm in Grapeland, Texas, with his wife, Lisa, and brought his real estate career home with him. Since then, Sonny has built a reputation as a top producer and trusted broker throughout Houston County and the surrounding six-county region.
Living on a working farm in Grapeland gives Sonny a perspective that few brokers in the area can match. He isn’t simply familiar with rural property from a listing sheet. He manages land himself, which shapes how he evaluates and prices farm and ranch listings for his own clients.
Sonny’s connection to the region runs deeper than his address. He stays current on market trends throughout Houston County and the surrounding counties, and he has built working relationships over the years with local lenders, appraisers, surveyors, and title companies. That network exists to keep his clients’ transactions moving smoothly from contract to closing, rather than stalling while a client tries to track down the right people on their own.
For clients, that means fewer delays and fewer surprises. A financing issue, a survey question, or a title concern gets resolved through people Sonny already knows and works with regularly, rather than a cold referral pulled from a directory.

Genuine Connections, Not Just Transactions

Sonny Tunstall Real Estate is built around the idea that real estate is about relationships, not just paperwork. Sonny takes the time to understand each client’s goals, whether that’s a first-time buyer looking for a starter home, a rancher expanding an existing operation, or a family selling land that’s been in their name for generations.
That approach means Sonny asks questions most brokers skip, and he tailors his guidance to what actually matters to the person in front of him rather than pushing a one-size-fits-all process.

Trusting Partnerships Built Over Time

Many of Sonny’s clients come back to him for repeat transactions, and many more come through referrals from past clients. That pattern reflects the kind of trusting partnership Sonny works to build with everyone he represents, whether they’re a first-time buyer or a seasoned investor.
Sonny’s approach remains the same regardless of the size or complexity of the transaction: build a relationship grounded in mutual respect, and let that relationship guide the work.

Integrity-Driven Excellence in Every Transaction

Sonny holds himself to a high ethical standard in every deal he handles. That means giving clients honest, direct information about a property’s value or condition, even when it isn’t what they want to hear, and prioritizing a client’s long-term interests over a quick close.
That commitment to integrity is part of why Sonny Tunstall Real Estate has built a reputation as a steady, dependable partner throughout Houston, Anderson, Trinity, Leon, Angelina, and Cherokee Counties.

Transparency From First Call to Closing

Sonny believes clients deserve full, honest communication throughout the buying or selling process, not just at the beginning. That means being upfront about property values, market conditions, and negotiation strategy at every stage, so clients are never caught off guard by a detail that should have been addressed earlier.
Whether a deal is straightforward or complicated, Sonny keeps clients informed and involved from the first conversation through closing and beyond. That level of communication is especially important in rural East Texas transactions, where farm and ranch deals often involve more moving parts than a standard residential sale, from surveys and mineral rights to agricultural exemptions.
